Welcome to the 106’th Feast of the Blessed Sacrament. I am hoping that everyone attending this year’s Feast will enjoy the traditions of our Madeiran ancestors.
My first involvement with the feast was over 45 years ago. My father, Charles Fernandes, was very proud of his Madeiran heritage. Therefore my brothers and I take pride in continuing his tradition by volunteering at Stand 6 every year. After all these years, this is the same stand that I have continued to work at with my family and friends.
The first year I served as a festiero was in 1991 with Feast President Manuel Garcia and then continued to serve every 5 years thereafter. I have also been a Board of Director over 25 years. It is an honor for me to be elected as President of the 106’th feast along with my brother as Vice-President. My grandfather was from Quinta Grande, Madeira and I am proud of our heritage. I know my father would be proud that we, as a family, have continued with the tradition.
Together with this year’s committee, Club SS Sacramento Members, the City of New Bedford, and all of the support from you, will make this the greatest feast ever!
